Default knock sensor on LS vtec

OK i am in the middle of installing my vtec head on my b18b block and i read that i neen a knock sensor. i was woundering if anyone knows how to over ride it with out re-programing the ECU. they say without one the engine will run, but the vtec will not kick in. if not whare is a good place to put it and can you drill it without pulling the engine. what about shavings from the drilling how do you get those out? please help, thanks brian

You can only overide it by switching to a piggy back or reprogramming your ecu, no other way around it.

If you drill a hole for the KS, you will get shaving and that's a no no. Just pay the extra $$ and have someone change your ecu.

You don't need to drill a hole for it. Just ground it out and run the correct wires to it and it will still function.
