OT - Compromising my original vision - or changing with the times?
Okay - it seems as though I have become dissatisfied with my car as of late. (For those that have not met me, I have a 1998 itR trapped in a 00 civic body). The car was built up at first to be more of a dedicated track/street car. But, it seems that that approach is not making a happy medium. Yes, the car is great on the track, but on the street it lacks manners and civility. The exhaust is too loud, no sounddeadning is annoying, ride is rough, car squeaks and shakes, etc. It always has, since it has been built, but now with the 300+ miles i put on it weekly, not to mention bi-weekly trips into dc it is starting to get just a quite annoying. So now it appears I am at an impass. Either sell the car as it is to someone who likes it this way (hmm, high school graduation is coming up - think one of them would care for a $20k civic?) and preserve the original car for the purpose I built it for - not to mention have a nice downpayment for a 91/92 nsx. Or, keep the car and dumb it down a little. Take out the enegry suspension mounts. Dial down the shocks. Put in some dynamat and install a nice stereo, along with back seats. Switch mufflers over to a quieter one, perhaps even a stock type-R modified to fit the hatchback. Sure, this would add 100 or so pounds back to the car, but probably make it much more livable on the street. So, knowing where I stand, what would some of you cats do??
ceas
p.s. - anyone know of any stock R mufflers and rear seats for sale??

Ceas, I am in the same thought process with my coupe. I don't know what your finacial situation is, but a NSX is not a very practical car, but hell who cares. I think we all get way to attached to our cars. The way I look at it is if you can get a good chunk of change for the hatch do it. If you don't owe anything on it and you can't get for it what you want you might as well keep it til someone comes along and gives you what you want for it. I myself am always changing my mind, but if someone came along and offered me 12k for my coupe I would take it without thinking twice. I don't think I have helped at all, but just remember it is just a car.

Yes, I'd love to have a early year model NSX, but the insurance stopped me when I was deciding on the R back in January 1997 when it was delayed for 6 months.
Keep the civic, tone it down some. If you set it back to "so called" TYPE-R factory settings, you'd still appreciate it. I told you those mounts would be abuse! After 4 years I haven't touched the motor and the car is strong! No need to have an N1 style cat back. It's fine stock, just loosen up the suspension and put some back seats in it.
Thanks,
Victor Perri II

why don't you try what you suggested, soften the suspension settings, maybe take out the stiffer suspension mounts, put the rear interior back in and get a stock muffler...
that will help a lot! try it, and if the car is still too raw, then decide what you want to do
there's really no need to have a hardcore track car setup for everyday use

I feel your pain. I just put my interior back in and went with a type r exhaust. It's much more bearable. Might even go back to stock intake for even more sound deadening and just use a stock ITR spring/shock setup.
I was planning to set up my 92 Cx as a track car/daily driver until I realized that I have a 92 Si for drag racing and my R for track. Also 95% of the time the Cx will be used strictly as a daily driver, so I decided to set it up for daily driver use.
Ceas, I suggest you get a beater and leave your car as is. I'm not sure how theft is in VA, but the piece of mind you get with a beater can't be beat. Parking your car anywhere, knowing it'll still be there when you get back is very nice. Also all the hard work you put into your car won't have been in vain. I think that if you dynamat the interior, eventually you'll find yourself ripping it out.

I sold mine and bought a clean daily driver integra, and bike for the track. All for less than i sold the parts of the
car for.
to make it interesting, try this. Strip apart the car, price each peice out, see what the total amount you would get reasonably.
THen imageine what you can get for that price. You'd be suprised and amazed, *not to mention a bit confused*

Put back a full interior, drop in a shop pack of Dynamat Extreme and install a nice stereo (decent front component speakers, headunit, 4 channel amp, removable subwoofer box) If it is your daily driver, it should be streetable (read comfortable) before trackable. It may weigh the car down by adding a 100 lbs to it or so, but it will be a much more enjoyable ride overall. If you haven't had your Civic set up like this before, with a stereo and full interior, I highly recommend trying it first before selling it.
Civics are practical cars. You must bring your car back to it's roots. I think I ripped that off your website

Another thing to consider is with all the road noise and the volume of your exhaust you can't hear your girlfriend when she's bitching at you.

Ceas - been following your EK build up since the beginning. I think you just need to tone it down a bit. Do what you suggested... "softer" shock setting, R exhaust, maybe stock intake, add some carpet and seats. How about a beater? Whatever happen to the old school Honda?
Ceas -
I would have to agree with some others above. Try to find a beater to drive on an every day basis. I would hate to see your setup become more civilized....or should I say civicized...?

ceas, its thats woman isnt it
. i mean, i feel i know you pretty well, and i dont think you'd like the car as much if you dropped a stereo in it and put the interior back in. yes, it'll be more daily driveable, but i think it would take that edge away from your car that you like. hell i know you hate the car (you always say that) but i think it would really take a lot away from what you want out of the car. at least i know you arent complaining about the intake sound on it, since its my stock air box

Wow, I'd be in a quandry too.
I guess I always knew I would have a beater soon though. What if you just left it and got a cheap daily car? It is nice leaving mine home If it rains. I'd hate to see the dumbing down.
Good Luck,
A.

Your car has been a constant evolution. 'Toning it down' a bit could be considered part of the next phase of its life. You've put a helluva lot of work into it, so I think it would be crazy to ditch it. It also serves you well as a track car. You have a really nice late-model track car that a lot of folks would kill for.
The beater thing can't be denied, though. You may be annoyed by your car, but it is a gem to theives (duh). The beater is such great piece of mind. It's also so much nicer to put miles on a beater rather than on your Spec R engine. They pile up quickly.
Why not get some light sound deadening and a stereo in there even if you get a beater. Even if you get a beater, why not have a weekend car that's still good to take roadtrips in? Or listen to Brian and keep it in Road Warrior mode. It kicks some serious *** in that form as well.
Don't do anything rash.

Just get another car. That's what I did.
The integra sleeps in the garage.
The 200+whp 92 CX is a weekend only car.
The 93 automatic STOCK Civic DX coupe is the daily driver.
Either that, or you might wanna look into MY next option..
2003 TL-S 6 speed

From what I've seen of your car, I'd go ahead and soften it up a bit, make it liveable for your long drives etc.

Ceas- get the rear seats and quieter exhaust. I drive my eek everyday and don't regret it. I have the Apex'i WS exhaust and it's SOOOOO quiet, even when Vtec kicks in.
Tweek the N1's and you're all set!!!!
