Default Y8 Mini-me Questions

So I'm getting a Y8 head and want to turn my 89 Civic Si street car into a mini-me for as little $$$ as possible. Most of the write ups I've seen are for the Z6 head so I want to make sure I have everything I need. I've read the stock dizzy will bolt up with the Y8, is that correct? I know on the Z6 swap you can use the FPR from the donor car, does this work with the Y8 too? Do I need to switch to a Y8 timing belt? I know I'll need a vtec controller, any suggestions for a cheap one that will do the job? Suggestions on a head gasket? Anything else I'm missing? TIA!

i got a field sfc off of ebay for $60. you can adjust injectors, and chose what rpm vtec kicks in, also it eliminates the 120mph speed limiter on honda ecus. i have it set up on my stock a6 now just for and its a great piece. i hear the apexi vafc is a lot better but also triple the price.

Yeah the stock dizzy bolts right up to the d16y8 head..

I recommend a Chipped pm6 ecu with d16y8 fuel/timing maps..And a summit rpm switch/w 30 amp relay for vtec..

And you can use the d16z6/d16y8 timing belt..Its really really tight but it works..The d15b7 may work better but not %100 sure yet..

With the chipped ecu can would you run the stock fuel pressure regulator? Any suggestions on who can do the chip cheaply? Can I get away with the stock ecu and the Y8 FPR? I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible so if I can just do the FPR swap I'll do that. Thanks again!

Yes you can run the d16y8 with your stock ecu..But it's a waste..Even if you get a vtec controller you wont have the extra fuel needed when vtec kicks in and the motor will feel like stock and it will run lean in vtec..You would have to get vafc + adjustable fpr so you can control vtec and add fuel..It would be better just to chip the ecu and run a switch..Or even maybe do that one wire vtec from Zydyne

Check out xenocron.com or Zdyne.com for chipping..

Because I'm a cheap bastard and already have one would a PG7 (89 integra) ecu be any better? I used to run it on the autocross car for the higher rev limit but it was way too rich, the car would actually soot out the tail pipe. Just wondering, thanks again!

That 89 integra ecu runs sohc motors way to rich..And honda motors dont make their best power or run right running real rich..All they do is bog..
