Default un-plugging battery question(s)

i ran a test at autozone and my alternator is cool, but the battery needed a little charge. dude hooked me up free, unless its already supposed to be free, then we put it back on and off i go. now as im driving i remember that my radio probably got reset and it did. now this isnt the stock one no more. its some hand-me-down,no name, aftermarket type HU. there arent any numbers to press either so im assuming a # code is out of the question. what can i do then? also what do you guys use to clean up your battery terminals?

I plug into the cigarette lighter a substitute 12v power supply (Rechargeable Ni-Cad Battery pack) with keeps powered up both the ECM memory and the Radio, to preclude jumping thru hoops later. It's worked out great. That way I can disconnect the battery without fear of having to deal with radio security codes or having to re-learn the ECM.

well i'll definitely remember that. problem was that i left the light on over night and she died. charged her up and let her sit and things were fine again. i decided to test her battery and alternator anyway since its free. now im just tryna' get the radio deck to work again. P you must have an answer to how i can approach this. stumping you on cars is nearly impossible.

Use this, then apply some sealer over the terminals once they're back on to prevent corrosion.....i.e. grease, terminal sealer

good luck..we had a used car we got at an auction that had a kenwood in it.. the radio lost it's power and we had to mail it off to get it recoded by the manufacturer.
It's just as quick and cost effective to jump on Ebay and buy a unit.

Yeah, I've heard of horror stories such as that related by Hondadude.

It might be worth your time to pull the Radio Chassis, garner the model and serial number off it, and give the manufacturers Customer Service Desk a call. If the GODS smile, they may be so inclined to give them over the phone. If not, at least they'll give you the procedure on what you've got to do.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'm not THAT much a knowledge repository . I can Dumb Down with the best of 'em sometimes
