Default Broke axle from shifting to 3rd to 4th, now halfshaft is stuck in tranny what to do now?

Ok well on the way home from the dyno, i did a couple of pulls and on one of the pulls, i broke an axle when i shifted from 3rd to 4th. On the passenger side, i broke the spindle on the axle and it is stuck in the tranny. So i decided to try to push the broken piece in the tranny from the opposite way. In order to do that, i have to take the other side out (driver side, halfshaft). Usually the whole assembly is easy to take out but it seems like the halfshaft is stuck in there. i tried hammering it out, i tried putting the halfshaft back on the block and loosening the tranny bolts so that the tranny can move off the block, and i tried having 1421 people pull on it, and still no luck. only thing i can think of is taking the tranny off and try taking it out then.

do you think anything broke inside the tranny which is causing the halfshaft to be siezed? i have a itr tranny with oem lsd btw.

here's a picture for entertainment, this is when i broke the axle and was stuck on the freeway.

if im reading it correctly you probably need to take out the tranny to fix it...

you are saying that the inner axle stub broke off in and its stuck in the diff right?

yeah i was planning to take off the tranny, but i was hoping to see if i can pull it off without taking the tranny off.

yeah it's stuck in the diff. so thats why i want to take off the halfshaft side so i can pound the one that's stuck out.

ic, that is really strange that it is stuck in there. as there is no c clip on the intermediate axle holding it in.. i think you need to perhaps hammer the intermediate axle out with a heavier hammer, like a mini sledge.

question now is why is the halfshaft all of a sudden "siezed" in the diff?

Any pics of the breakage? Is there nothing sticking out of the diff to grab on to pull it out? Maybe if the only thing left in the diff was the splined part...it went inside the tranny far enough to get jammed somehow and not lined up with the spines anymore?

Why not try removing the other axles and smacking the broken part out from the other side?

thats what he said he wanted to do but he can't do it because the other side is also stuck in there, he wants to know how to get it out, which i would say if you cant beat it out while its in the car then you're probably going to have to take it out of the car to get it out.

sorry bout the luck hope everything goes well

My friends D16 turbo did this, i eventually got enough to force to get the joint out and the circlip on the end had manged to pop free from teh set ring over the snout of the splines so essentially i had to apply enough force to squash the metal circlip

I think your going to have to drill and tap that broken part out, then make some kind of puller to pull it out..
