Default Revved EM1 too much?

Yesterday I went down to New York to visit a buddy of mine and he let me take his '00 SI out for a ride (which is 100% stock). I was driving and routinely braked by throwing it into neutral but hit the gas instead of the brake like an idiot. The car revved to about 8,000 RPM's and then straight back down. Keep in mind it's freezing here in the northeast. The car had been warmed up/driving for about 7-8 minutes...I didn't do anything to hurt the engine/car did I?

serious replies please...I know i'm an idiot for even doing this by mistake

You didn't hurt anything.

Pay more attention to your driving next time.

Let the car warm up and then floor it in 2nd gear. If at about 5500rpm you hear the engine get louder, then the engine is broken.

No, the car will be fine. Don't do it on a regular basis though.

8k is redline though right? so one time in neutral shouldn't be too damaging

Are you serious? THat is either the funniest or most idiotic statement I've heard today.

Honestly, that motor will be fine....stock ECU's have a fuel cut for a reason. They keep you from breaking things.

when I had my B16 I used to bounce it off of the rev limiter on a daily basis......I loved to beat that thing.

I feel bad for the guy I sold it to......some local ricer in Indiana, PA

I think anyone who sells a modded/swapped car has beat on it, you're not the only one.

no rev limiter asks for over revving and damage
