turn signals / hazards... help needed please
okay all of the sudden now my turn signals don't work and neither do my hazards... i tried replacing the signal/hazard fuse (black box looking thing)... are there any other fuses associated with these lights? what would be next if the black box fuse didn't solve the problem? thanks in advance... i'm going on a road trip in 2 hours and need to fix this asap...
i bought the flasher relay thing... didn't solve the problem... that was the thing i was talking about that i replaced
i gave up for tonite... canxed my trip to philly tonite... so this is what i've done so far... replaced the blinker/hazard flasher... then i checked the turn signal and hazard fuses... both were blown... and so i replaced those... so when i go to press the hazard switch i can hear the fuse blow and the same when i do the turn signal... so i put the car away for tonite... plus the stupid hood refuses to latch now... what else is gonna go wrong... i'll look for an open somewhere tomorrow when the sun is out all this cold weather and working on the car is not for me... lol

Has the car been wrecked or have you installed any aftermarket accessories? If any of those apply check the areas for shorted wires. Also pull ALL of the light bulbs out of the holders and check them. Sometimes the sockets or bulbs goof up and cause a short.
Is your clock dissconnected , I took out my clock once and then all the turn signals stopped working. When I put it back, everything was fine.
well the fuse blew creating an open. my answer was based upon his first post. I would guess that he has a short in his turn signal switch or wiring harness........based upon the updated information he has provided about the problem.
You might want to invest in another few fuses (or a circuit breaker). One thing which (May) give some indication of whats going one; is finding out if the fuse blows only when the directional switch is selected in one direction.
IE: Blows when selected Left (Liberal) or Right (Conservative)
If it acts this way, it's indicating that most likely the switches are ok and the problem lays with a bulb socket (corrode) a pinched wire leading to a bulb or it's making a political statement.
If it blows both left and right; it COULD be a switch, but I'm not entirely convinced yet. My reasoning?
The hazard switch you mention has no way to seek or short to a ground. It's a switch that does no more than make/break a power circuit to the Relay/Timer, and has no ground circuits running thru it. In addition, the switch body is plastic, as is the Dash Trim Panel that it snaps into. It has no opportunity to seek a ground.
I suspect wiring/damaged sockets etc; but I've had curve ***** thrown in this business before. Nothing surprises anymore

ok unpon further inspection this afternoon after a short excursion (think outside the bun... lol) i took a quick look again... the previous owner had several items of aftermarket mess... wiring all over the place... so i plan to get rid of these extra wires that serve no purpose like fog light wiring for fog lights not there anymore...
the lights all came on except the driver side turn signal... but when the lights were working it would still signal for a turn even though it was not illuminated for parking light...
i checked the bulb... good bulbs... i did find now that the wiring to the bulb there are three wires... a red a greenish one and some other color i can't remember.... as well as two black/yellow wires that go to the windshield washer fluid... it seems that the wires to the shield fluid are ripped out... and the red wire is completely split and the other wires are holding on by a few strands....
i'm gonna try to fix that up.... is that my problem you think? i really hope so!!!!
thanks p_adams, YeuEmMaiMai, deserthonda, neight, and MooGoCow3 for all the suggestions, inputs, and help

I whole heartily agree, it's an excellent idea that will remove all the substandard Rat's Nest of electrical pasta called wiring. It will give you the opportunity to not only trace wiring problems (Now and In the Future) without the customary &*^%$( comments, but will also avoid the distinct possibility of becoming "TURNPIKE TOAST" at a most inopportune time
