Can it be done
Hey whats up i have a '93 civic hatchback DX, and i want to put in a b16a1, now i think that i need the b16a2 bc of the hydro trans. But hasport makes a hydro to cable conversion. Dose anyone if this works or dose anyone someone who did it. thanks alot
yea it can be done. alot of people i know have jdm b16's. you can do it, if you got the money. me personally i would go with a gsr motor boosted!! but thats just me!

Sure it's been done, but WHY?
Don't say cost either because once you add it all up you should have gotten a B16A3 from a Del Sol VTEC or a second gen B16A swap that's OBDI from the JDM EG.
Shall I add it all up?
Here goes:
1st-gen B16A w/tranny and ECU: $1,200 (if you're lucky)
HASport mounts and cable-hydro converter: $650
Del Sol VTEC distributor: $350+new - used ??? (used ones suck *** bro)
Correct ECU - either P30 or re-chipped P28: $300-350 (unless you got a P28, then it's only $150 or so)
Axles - $250 or so because you won't have the right cores
Shift linkage: $150 (used $75 or so)
Header: $200+ (I'm being generous here - yours will be cut or not there at all on the 1st-gen B16A)
I *think* that's about it. Now let's see our total for this "bargain" swap:
$3,100
My bad - subtract the $200 you could get for the 1st-gen ECU and you get:
$2,900
So where's the bargain in that? I see USDM B16A3 swaps going for $2,300 and newer B16A2 from 99-00 Si coupes going for $3,500 with much less miles. JDM 2nd-gen B16A (170hp) swaps go for $2,500 or so as well, and then just add axles, header, and shift linkage and you've got 10 more hp for similiar cost.
Plus the cable-hydro converter-equipped hybrids feel weird. That swap is really meant for the 1988-1991 Civic, not the 1992-up stuff.
