Default Car wont start....click click

So i was at my friends house and after my car sat there for like 3 hours i went to start it and I just got a clickin noise.
So I tryed to jump it and got nothing but a clicking noise when cranking
So than the next day i went over and turned the igniton on and off very fast and ended up starting.
So I drove home and a block from my house I lost all the power and the lights went off.
So I pulled over and wiggled the ground on the battery and the lights went back on.
Went to go start the car again and just got a clicking noise again
I tried hitting the starter with a hammer and still nothing.
Someone please help my car is stuck on the side of the rode and i dont know what i should do

Thanks
-Brian

Replace the starter. I've seen them go on more than one occassion.

Edit: Nevermind I just caught the battery part. Sounds like a loose terminal. I would replace the battery terminals on the positive and negative sides.

That has to be the problem. Make sure they are tight first, if its still a problem replace the terminals. Could try and replace the battery too.

Try cleaning your terminals, before you go replacing them.

check for corrosion on both the battery ground and the wire to the starter. I assume your terminals arent corroded either because that one would be obvious. If all wiring checks out ok, then replace your starter.

Just went to the car and took off the neg terminal and it looked good at both ends so i tightened it up and still nothing

then i looked at the postive terminal and it looked a lil bit melted(its a side terminal battery) so i went to tighten it and it was loose.
Tightened it up and the car started right up
So releaved cause this car is a bitch to change the starter, have to take off the header or remove part of the subframe and its cold as hell out so im so realeaved

Thanks everyone for your help

Clicking when you turn the key = not enough juice to turn the starter - either from a poor connection or bad battery.

"Zooming whine" when you turn the key = bad starter solenoid/nose cone.

Nothing when you turn the key = no power whatsoever and/or starter wired incorrectly.

These are simple ways to deduce starter failure. How do you have over 10,000 posts and you can't tell when your battery terminals are loose?

I actually had the same thing happen on a Cadillac once. Side-terminal batteries suck. Thank you, General Motors, for making everything just a little more difficult than it needs to be!
