My Flex-a-lite Electric Fan Keep Blowing Fuses!

I had it wired to the iginition switch so it powers up as soon as I start my car. Been working fine for a year and I just noticed it does'nt power up anymore, I changed the blown in-line 20A fuse and as soon as it powers up and starts spinning, it blows the fuse.
The normal power draw should be 9.5 amps but it's obviously pulling over 20. I put in a 30A and it didn't blow but the wires got awful hot so I disconnected it.
My question is being the motor/blades spin fine with and without power, is there something damaged in the motor housing that is causing it to pull more amps?
Is this fixable or should I just get another fan? Thanks!

get a ampmeter and measure its actual current draw. It sounds like the motor is just going bad. Also make sure your not shorted to GND.
I would try rebuilding the motor itself. See if FAL sells new armature brushes and maybe bearings. Prob cost alot less than a completely new fan if its possible!

your likely cause is that the motor windings are shorting to ground. The motor will spin but the higher amperage flow needed to make it spin will cause you circut to over load and blow the fuse. I suggest getting a new fan or fan motor.
