Default possible water "ingestion"...not hydrolocked but im all out of ideas...

i wish this was on a better note...

for reference: 2001 integra gs-r, stock block, full-race kit

i got stuck on a one way thru-way today on my way to work, and the car was submerged in about 14" of water...right before i saw the road flooded i turned the car off and just pumped the brakes as I rolled through. I imediately put my hazards on and watched the car smoke for about 5 minutes. My stepfather came and pushed me to the side of the road, I started it up and took it VERY easy on the way home, beow 2500 in all gear, vacuum was pulling between 15-20 in/hg the whole way home...car was idling decently.

i got home after work and pulled my plugs. clyninder 1 was just like all plugs ive ever pulled from the block, but 2-4 were a very dark brown with a tint of black. I did a compression test and yieled 200's across the board, without any odd variances in between.

I drained the oil and noticed it was normal colored, but what i would say decently "runny".

the filter, directly on the compressor, had a VERY small amount of water in it on the cone of all places. the wheel spins freely with no play or odd noises i started pulling the intercooler plumbing tonight and notice a slightly wet light brown substance in some areas after the intercooler.

the car was idling fine before the compression test, and I'm at a total loss. if the motor fully hydrolocked i would definently know, but this is just baffling me.

any ideas, suggestions, etc please post them up. i feel so defeated i can't describe it

I went down a road once and it was very flooded, I tried to stay away from the deeper parts but it was unavoidable. The motor sucked up a little water and turned off, I pulled over and sat for like 10-20 minutes and started it back up. Thankfully, it started back up. Motor was fine, lasted at least a year longer, I only took it apart cause I wanted to fully build it. Cylinder walls looked good, pistons looked great.

I think sometimes as long as its just a little bit, the heat of the motor will steam it away. But not always........

If your about to hit water, just let off the gas, and clutch it. That will make it suck the very least. If you are coming up on really deep water, take your foot off the gas, clutch in and key off! (It's better than kiling your engine.)

Your car is fine.

Hydrolock is such a rare thing........unless you drive your car into a river or stick a running water hose into your intake, then yeah, you'd hydrolock.

No worries.......your fine.

thank you for the first couple of respones.

the problem is i want to know exactly what happened.

why are the plugs black? (they were changed 200 miles ago)
why is there a wet brown substance in my charge piping?
why was my oil water thin?

if water was ingested into the motor...can i assume there is damage to the turbo?

- plugs are black becuase you may be running rich

- what is your pcv setup? if you run a preturbo slashcut that explains the brown stuff in your charge pipes.

- Was your engine hot when you drained the oil?

Other then that idk, there is NO WAY water would get in the oil if it was sucked in your intake. Even if it was water+oil dont mix, the oil would be just as viscous as ever and the water would come out as a seperate part altogether.

plugs change all the time based on if it was idleing or running down the road. No big deal. Brown stuff is accumulated moisture...probably been in there for months. Just clean it out and quit worrying

pcv setup is a catch can from the crankcase evap..in the process of going with a Z10 setup.

the engine wasn't hot when the oil was drained...it was about 45 minutes after i shut the car off before the compression test.

sorry guys, i dont mean to be over-paranoid...the car is my daily driver..and im just worried..

earl..thank you for the reply.

im going to go finish cleaning it up...get some fresh in there and see where it goes from there i guess.

thanks everyone for your help

your fine man.

I sucked up a bunch on water once and almost hydrolocked. i mean my intercooler was FULL of water and my car kept shooting out huge clouds of steam and cutting off.

I drained the intercooler and beat the crap outa the car on the way home... then everything was fine
