Pop out axle from hub and tranny. Pop in new axle to hub and tranny.

aka replace the whole axle.

i recently replaced my left cv boot (i didn't replace it but the some shop did) but i waited a long time til i replaced it and whenever i make left U turns it makes this ticking noise from my axle... do i have to replace the axle now? and what will happen if i don't replace the axle? Whats the average cost of an axle ?

Axles are 50 bucks an 5 mins of work (with air tools of course). Just replace it. Worse case seniro is your on the freeway the axle breaks you spin out of control and hit a wall. Or you could be lucky like me and leave a parking lot and have the axle break on you then. Either way the axle could break.

The one for your car would work...

If you want a step-by-step tutorial, take a look through the FAQ guides. Its sticky'd at the top of this forum.

I would recommend sticking with OEM if you can, or Raxles.com. Autozone/Napa etc rebuilds are complete junk.

I had one break on me at a decent speed when I was flooring it. Just made a lot of crunching sounds and you could rev the engine but nothing would happen other then crunching sound. No spinning out and hitting a wall. Though it does suck ***** to be stuck on the side of the road in the winter.

Don't get napa axles. Just ask a local shop who they exchange axles with. Sometimes if the boost just tore open thne you can put a new cv boot on buts its kind of a bitch and not a good idea if the thing ran dry for awhile.

Both my axles are new napa life time warrenty.
I autocross and drag race my car and have yet to have any problems.

Besides, if I get a torn boot 2 years down the road, they get replaced for free. As long as you have the reciept of course.

i beg to differ. My buddys axle broke like this. The joint came apart and well, the one end was in the hub spinning, and the broken end could do nothing but spin. Bang Bang Bang, 2 huge chunks out of a type r tranny case.

Get it fixed!!

Oh course get it fixed, I totally aggree with you,

I am just saying when it happened to me (on my VW) nothing else broke, I immediately pulled over. I think in my case the transmission was able to take the sending of all the power to the broken end. Oh well, shitty for you friend

But ya, get that fixed. Mine lasted about 30km after I started feeling ticking.

then swap it out again, and swap that one out again, then swap that one.... well, you get the drift. get good axles to begin with, and this problem goes out the window.
