Hey guys I need some educated opinions from guys who have 1st hand experience with bearing wear etc.
Here is a little background on the situation:
I got this short block assembled about 3 years ago from a person everyone considered "reputable" I am not going to go into whom it was because this isnt what the post is about.

I asked for specs on clearances when the lower end was assembled.. I got nothing. So being the the **** person that I am I decided to take the lower end apart (now that I have time) and re-check all of my clearances and get rid of those bs 5/16ths 220kpsi bolts that came with my Pauter b16a rods.

I checked the clearance at .006 stretch and they are at .0015 (which is fine) but I noticed some scarring on the bearing surface and I am a little apprehensive to let it slide. This lower end have never been run and I thought this was odd..
Tell me what you guys think.. If this is "normal" or "will be just fine" than Ill run it like this. I dont want to spin a rod bearing or have issues. Let me know what you guys think.

can u feel any inperfections on the bearing....maybe with a finger nail???

 

it doesnt look too promising...,i took mine out after 1000miles and they looked brand new..., except two of the mains.

 

it doesn't look deep or scarred from what i can tell.....its probably just the first coating/layer of the bearing rubbing off.

did you check the actual clearence?.........try using plastigauge to measure that one bearing and see what you come up with.

OR there was some dirt particles during assembly that was missed and got caught between the crank journal and bearing.......it may be stuck in the oiling hole now if that was the case.

I can just barely feel it with my finger nail.

 

Yes I checked it is at .0015

that bearing is still ok, take a scotch brite pad and polish it out, itll be good as new. It looks to me like dirt did that.

I was going to say dirt also. Did the bearing/crank have any kind of lube on it also? Looks bone dry.

Yea it had assembly lube on it but I cleaned it off so that the pics would come out. Trust me Ill lube it up REAL good when I put it back together. Im a professional at lubing it up.

 

Just a wild shot in the dark, but because it's right in the center, could it possibly be a slight machining screw up due to the champfering (sp ) of the oil hole on the crankshaft?

Or it coulda been dirt.

 

It looks like dirt got on there. Other than that, looks fine.
