B16 ShortBlock /Dust -HELP-
OK so I was adding to my work bench, cutting a few peices of wood. Then I looked under my bench and realized that the cover on my B16 short block was on the floor, and there was saw dust in the cylinders and on some of the pistons. CRAP!
I cleaned as much of it out with a rag and vaccumed it. Now is there still a chance that some of it will get into the the motor and ruin it? The block has about 5k miles on the rebuild and really don't want it to go to ****. Am I safe with just cleaning it, or am I going o have to get it torn down and cleaned/reassembled now?

Personally I'd just use compressed air to blow it out. Its wood shavings dude, the metal of the motor is MUCH stronger than it is. Any shavings in the cylinder's themselves will get burned away durign combustion. The only thing I'd even be mildly concerned with is shavings in teh coolant passages....and even then I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
I had the same thing happen to me but I got some plastic and POSSIBLY some metal shavings in there. What's a good way to clean the cylinders (since the pistons are still installed) without fully disassembling the bottom end?
Thanks!

Use one of the little air blower attachments for a compressed air hose. Blow off the top of the motor and blow it clean from the bottom. There's really not much else you can do.

Well, I used my air gun and a micro fiber towel to get the stuff out. (for the most part I guess)
Now, I guess I just need to put a few drops of motor oil in the cylinders since they're now dry just to allow for proper movement of the pistons right?

That would be ok I suppose, but you always want to blow the block clean after you do everythign else. My issue is that even with a spray cleaner, the liquid could puddle up and you may have debris once it dries. And with a cloth (even if its micro fiber) I don't trust it to not leave fiber somewhere. Its a personal choice really....I just think that blowing the block out as a final step is really the best option.
Motor oil would be OK to use as lube, but I've generally preferd the rec pie filling assembly lube. Like I said before...its just a personal choice.
