Default tranny problems

ok so i just swapped my firends gsr motor into his 97 civic, but when we started it up and tryed driving it around we had problems with the tranny....1st gear would not go in, you would have to force it in or push it in hella hard, second gear is fine, 3rd gear wont go in 95% of the time, 4th gear is fine and 5th is fine....my friend said the shift linkage is a little bit bent up, would this be the couse of the problem? or is the tranny bad?

thanks 4 your help in advance

A bent shift linkage could be a problem. If there was not a problem in his car with that shiftlinkage, you shouldn't have a problem.
Was his car wrecked, were the shiftlinkage might have been bent up?

just change out the shift linkage..... then you'll eliminate that problem ....hopefully its the shift linkage and not the tranny.....
