how do you measure piston to deck clearence??
just like the title says.............what tool(s) do you need to measure the piston to deck clearence? and how is it done?
thanks
thanks
Install the #1 and #4 piston/rod assemblies in the block(w/crank and bearings of course), and put them at TDC(you dont need the rings to do this). Use a machininst scale or dial cal to mearsure the distance from the quench pad on the piston to the top of the cylinder, this is your piston to deck clr.
the pistons have a dome to it. where is the quench pad? the very edge of the piston also have a small lip to it as you can see in the picture. do i measure from that small lip or the flat portion of the piston?
thanks

In your pic, look where the valve reliefs are cut and the flat top, on both the intake and exhaust side seperately. Measure from the lip or pad on these flats to the block top. Use which ever point is highest.
quwnch pad is the part that is flat on the combustion chamber/piston where the air is mixed with the fuel.
