Default Need help!!!! Quick!!!!

Ok so i'm drive home from my local shop it's about 15miles from my house. I get off the interstate and stop at the red light at the end of the off ramp. While i'm sitting there i hear a strage noise but it went away. By the time i got to my house it sounded like my engine was demolishing it's self. I poped the hood and started the car and it's coming from my distributer. I'm guessing the bearing have gone bad. Anyone know of a good place to get a distributor? Also will a d16y distributor work in a d16z engine? If you can give me any info it would cool, is it hard to install a new one?

Open up the distributor cap and see if there are any metal shavings inside.
That would be a good sign its crapping out.

I would consider get a distributor from a salvage yard, they can be pretty pricey from the dealer.

On integras replacing the distributor is pretty easy. Unbolt it, unplug the electrical harness, remove the rotor and cap. Then do the reverse with the new distributor.
Set the timming and then you are done.

My guess is it should be similar for your engine.

I just recently did a valve adjustment, could this relate to the distributor?

Like I said, pull off the distributor cap. If the distributor is grinding it will leave metal shavings inside the cap. If this is the case, replace

The bearing is probably froze or dry so it makes hella noise when it turns, but it may not be loose enough to grind the rotor on the inside of the cap.

same thing happened to my buddy a while back. Gang load of noise. To check, pull the distributor and try to spin the rotor. If you cant....time for new distro

I got a good distributor from a 93 si. Just did a motor swap on my brothers car. So I have a spare distributor laying around if you need one. Make me an offer.

Distributor bearings go out all the time. See bunches of them at the dealership.
If you get the wrong dist. it will cause you problems...yes it may bolt in and start but the timing will be way off and will not have any power. And just because aftermarket parts store says it's right doens't mean it is. Have fought this many times.

easiest way to make sure you don't get shocked or burn something up when working on the engine is simply removing the neg. batt. cable...
