Default tips on getting crank bolt off

i am doing a timing belt on a 95 SOHC acord and i have tried everything to get the bolt off, my impact wrench wont budge it and if i try to wedge something in the crank sproket it will just jump one notch on the belt (after it skipped once i quit doing it that way.

is there some where else that i can lock it up so i can just hit it with a big wrench?

also do you think using a torch would help at all?

any help would be a godsend right now
Danny

no torches! you need a crank pulley holder tool like this for it to be really easy:

if you have something like that and a big breaker bar you'll be all set.

I made my own using a torque converter mounting plate and a 2x4 but the trans was off.

this air gun would take it off:

even though you got it off already, this is how I've removed a few.

Has worked great for me. I have the same tool as notoriousB posted but I bought mine at TheToolWarehouse.net

wow that's a big breaker bar. My 5 year old blue-point 1/2 inch impact takes most of them off. Although we have about 200 PSI too. But the special tool is definately a plus.

yep, but it works. Air tools would be nice but I live in an apartment right now so I have to do without. Once I move into a house with a garage air tools are on the list of things to get.

I am about to attempt this and thought I had it figured out, now I am confused. The crank bolt is used to adjust the timing belt tension and turn the engnine for valve adjustments in a counter-clockwise direction, yes? This being the case, I assumed counter-clockwise would tighten the bolt. Yet in looking at TouringAccord's pic (thanks again for the help on the rotors ) it would seem the bolt comes off counter-clockwise in a typical fashion. While this seems smart it goes against logical physics, what gives?

Also, can't find the specs on the pulley tool, I assume it will fit a 1992 Accord? Finally I would also like to confirm that the crank bolt is 19mm. Thank-you.

same rules apply...
righty tighty, lefty loosy

Yes, the crank bolt or crank pulley (if you have the tool) can be used to turn the motor during valve adjustments and timing belt adjustments. No, the crank bolt does not adjust tension on the belt though. There is another bolt located near the middle of the lower timing cover. It sticks out from a hole in the black plastic cover and has a rubber washer around it to seal the cover. That bolt is what locks the tensioners into place. You loosen that bolt, turn the motor the specified times, and then retorque the bolt. The adjusting bolt I'm refering to is part #24 in the picture below.

np about the rotors.

Here is a link to the pulley tool I bought.

Yes, the crank bolt is a 19mm.

make sure to take your time, allow pletty of time so you don't rush. You don't want to forget a step and have something mess up.

Also, make sure you have a manual handy so you can double check everything your doing. I was so nervous on the first one I did, I atleast double checked everything I did to my Helm manual.
