How hard to legalize a JDM civic
im looking to buy a rhd shell. its a 99 civic with no engine. the guy imported it as a parts car but everything is there except for the engine. i want to buy the shell and have someone put in an si engine off my wrecked 99 si. so if i do that and keep all the smog equipment will i be legal, can i get it registered? just take it to chp to get a vin, right?
Yeah but you'll have to swap firewalls to make it LHD for the US. Its a LOT cheaper and easier to get a USDM shell. I mean if you want the performance of the CTR, get a US Civic, and just bolt on the subframes from a CTR. Itll be a lot easier. The frames and bodies are the same, just cause its built in Japan makes it no better.
In conclusion, forget it. Save your cash and hassle and get a US model.

you'll have to spend loads of money and swap everything over to DOT approved stuff. headlights, taillights, windows, etc...
if insurance ever looks at it...yer toast.
but if you can get away with them just looking at papers of the car then you might get away with it.
if a cop pulls you over...yer toast.
but i think you can get away with an old EG chassis though since its over 10 years old.

so if I got an older car (at least 10yrs old) I would be able to get it legal? i think i saw a fully legal jdm crx for sale here a while back...
Dude, you don't want a JDM frame, the engine/tranny are whats stronger, the frame is not like some magical better frame, plus it will be RIGHT HAND DRIVE . You'll end up on the wrong side of the freakin car man. you'll have to swap firewalls, dashes, etc and itll be a pain. Get your car here, and get it legalized, then put in your JDM spec engine later and your all set.

and there is an in&out near me that serves rhd cars, haha. the place is in the middle and there are two drive though isles...one on the left (for me) and one on the right of it.
