Default z6 head / a6 block. will a y8 head gasket be too thin?

ive heard you can take the middle layer out of a y8 headgasket to raise compression even more. but i am mixing a 91 SI block (a6) with a z6 vtec head, will there be enough clearance if i use the y8 gasket without the middle layer or no? ive done it before with the stock z6 gasket but if i can squeeze a lil more power out of it by usin the y8 gasket i will.
