Default IACV or FITV? cant tell which one...

I have a 93 civic cx with a d15b non-vtec motor... the idle starts out high when i start it and then it starts to surge and sometimes quits... after it is completly warmed up then it idles just fine... what would cause this???

also when i drive it feels like it sputters at about 3000 rpm but hi and low rpm its fine...

Any solutions? MIGHT NOT BE IACV OR FITV!!!

i think after the car is warmed up the FITV doesn't do anything, check your IACV

when your car is warmed up, unplug your IACV, if the car dies you need to adjust the large flat head screw above your throttle body. you should be able to idle the car around 5-600 with just the adjustment above. If you unplug your IACV and the car Idles fine, then take off the two screw holding the IACV and spray it out with brake Kleen, make sure its all evaporated and bolt your IACV back up to the intake manifold. MAke sure you remove the gasket from the IACV before you spray the brake kleen. Remember to work the screw in half turns and keep track in case you need to return it to its previous position.

may be ignition related, especially at 3000, you need three things fuel, air and spark. my guess would be that when you fixed the quitting problem the 3000rpm stumble went away too??? LMK

that's the problem right there.. the FITV doesn't do anything once the car is warmed up so it's the source of the surging problems while it's still cold... you might have to tighten up the plunger on the FITV to fix the surging idle...

as for the sputtering, i'm thinking it could be a timing issue... if the cam timing isn't off then maybe you're running slightly retarded or you need to do a tune up

i figured out the surging while driving problem and the quitting problem... it was the coil in the distributer...

as for the messed up idle while its warming up that could be the fitv or the iacv right?

which one is it... iacv or fitv???
