Default Oh no another 3rd gear grind

Ahhh this really bites. I got my car not too long ago and it didn't grind unless you didn't push the clutch down all the way. Well I let my friends drive my car and since its a cable, they couldnt find the right spot for third. Grind, after grind, I think my tranny might be failing. Now, no matter what I do it will grind 3rd unless going very slow and I make sure the clutch is down. Dose this mean a tranny rebuild or I need a new clutch? My 2nd grinds a little when I let her rip sometimes.

GM syncromesh or GM syncromesh friction modified. It is tranny fluid made by GM any of your local GM dealers should have it in the parts department. I put it in my tranny when I was grinding in 2nd and 3rd all the time and it stoped completely. Great stuff I paid about $25 for 2 quarts, it isn't cheap but it works miracles.

Any fluid is just going to band air the problem

If you are a loyal customer to Honda, and they want to keep you there. They will fix it for almost nothing

Just wanted to post it so if people search, they will find this.

Since I doubt you bought the car from Honda, it would cost you full price. Unless other family members bought a car from Honda.

My brother got his YS1 tranny rebuilt. His was so bad it wouldn't go into 3rd or 4th. Grinded all geats right down. Cost him 800$ to get the tranny done and he said it's like a brand new tranny. Changed about 75% of everything hahaha. It was close to blowing up...but it was on a 1/4 mile car with 220whp all motor.

Make sure your clutch is adjusted properly. Your cable may have streched.

Goodluck.

I was thinking it might be my cable. Is there a proper way to know how far is far enought when adjusting it?

-For $1000 ill get myself an LSD ITR tranny. Of course I don't get the nice short gears and the fresh tranny but I do get the defined hydralic shifts and the itr final drive
