Just wondering if anyone in here would know if adding a few drops of food coloring to a new bottle of brake fluid might change the chemical composition of the brake fluid and make it less effective.

I dont think a few drops of color would really effect the ability of the fluid to work well in the system, but I would like to be sure.

If the food coloring is water-based then yes it will lower the boiling point.

Please don't tell me you're trying to make DIY SuperBlue or something.

 

What exactly are you trying to do? I wouldn't want any type of impurities in my braking system, even though it seems like it should be inert, it could effect something. It won't change the composition of the brake fluid, but it could boil out quickly (like water) and cause problems.

 

What the hell is your plan? It is highly advised that you don't add anything to your brake fluid other than brake fluid.

 

true if it is water based then it could boil out. and this is why I am asking what you guys know, so that if I go crazy one night and try it, I wont get mad brake fade driving around the block.

I only thought of it one time when flushing the system that if you could color the fluid (I was using valvoline..and old valvoline and new valvoline dont look drastically different. I can see the difference but its not night and day) it would make the whole process much easier.

It was just a thought.
