Default VTEC won't engage...need some helpgin

I've been wondering for a while if my VTEC was engaging because I never could hear it or really feel it so I wired up a VTEC light yesterday and it never lit up when I went driving. Only flashes when the key turns. I spliced it up to the green wire with a yellow stripe on it. It's a 00' EX with a d16y8. If my VTEC solenoid were to be really dirty, could it stop it from engaging? I really want VTEC, my 1/4 mile time is a lot worse than it should be and I need all the help I can get.

I checked the wire to the VTEC solenoid and as far as I can see, everything is plugged in. I'll check it again though. By power wire you mean the green wire, right? There's only one.

i meant checking the power by using a test light to see if the solenoid itself is getting power.

if the inside is dirty, but some grime on the outside shouldnt stop it unless its stopping it from being properly grounded.

also, check your oil level. low oil level will also stop it from engaging.

I just changed my oil and I don't have any leaks but I'll check it just to make sure...I guess the only thing to do is to check it with a test light. What else can stop VTEC from engaging?

speed senors, oil pressure, coolant temp, load, rpm

So I would say take the solenoid off and clean the screen of the VTP switch.
