Honestly, I don't see any benefits from an intercooler with a larger surface area. Sure we can get into the physics of it, but if trying to get the best intake charge is a huge concern then why not get an intercooler that is thicker?

I favored the inconspicuous look. I kept everything that I could. I had to make some minor cuts to some bracing but that was about it. My intercooler was also anodized black.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I cut out all the grill crap on my front bumper.

I just didn't like the way it looked anyway, and think it looks so much better gone.

Even if I didn't have a turbo/ intercooler, I'd still cut that **** off... it sucks...

I cut mine originally because it got mangled the weekend before this pic was taken at the ALMS weekend at Mosport (came face to face with a Prelude that spun me around). Cutting the grill out was the best thing I did only because it gave me another reason while the bumper cover was off to put mesh in place to catch all the marbles that mess up the rad fins. Although the job looks somewhat ghetto, it does the job and that's all that matters as far as I'm concerned.

You can see the marbles accumulating in the protective mesh, after only about 15 mins. on track

One more pic - different angle

You can't really cut higher because the reinforcement bar sits just below the badge
