Should I cut my bumper more for my intercooler?
I'm rebuilding my crx after blowing the engine recently. Right now I've got a Trust intercooler that I found in a dumpster in Japan. It's way too big, but it was free and I figure I should just work with what I've got. Anyway, the question is whether or not cutting the bumper to expose more intercooler is really going to make a difference. It looks clean now and the exposed section of intercooler is probably more than adequate for my purposes (t-3 turbo maxing at 13lbs.) The alternative to the current setup would be to cut up to near the top of the bumper to expose more of the intercooler. Anyway, I'd like to see what ya'lls forum folk think would be best. Thanks
(shot of construction. Reveals size of intercooler)
(what the car currently looks like. The bumper has been cut, but as you can see, a large portion of the intercooler is covered since it's actually holding up the facia now...)

You could cut another inch or two to make the oppening taller, but that is up to you. Its not going to make that much difference in cooling efficiency. 98ctr

Re: (redteg_87)
yeh cut it, get as much flow to it as you can, then watch the bumper bow up from all the air pressure being put on the thin remaining section of the bumper... kind of like my rabbit...
and a close up!
(so in short if you cut it take the bumper off and have it supported, other wise it'll look like my rabbit bumper before i had it fixed...)
p.s. yes, haha, it is super sonic blue pearl

What were you diggin thru the trash for?
Looks fine to me, I don't think theres any reason to cut the bumper more.

Thanks for all the replies! Damn, that was fast!.
EM1, to answer your question, the reason you dig in the trash in Japan is because you can find ginormous Trust FMICs and underneath, a full cat-back HKS FD RX-7 exhaust along with 4 pot RX-7 calipers, and adjustable skyline shocks... Yes, all in the dumpster...

I never thought about that possibly happening... Thanks for the warning...

I'll bet some kid in Japan is probably pimp slapping his mom for throwing his parts away.

Instead of buying Japanese parts here for a huge markup, maybe I should just take an extended vacation in Japan and do some treasure hunting! The trip would pay for itself.
The GTI looks like it's showing it's teeth. I like it!
All kidding aside, that's a very nice GTI. I would have been pissed after all that work.

Re: Should I cut my bumper more for my intercooler? (B16A Grenade)
I was just over there and made about $700 in a few days selling parts... There's money to be made... Parts are getting harder to find now though... The parts aren't even going to the US. A lot of them are going to Malaysia, singapore and other places in China... it's nuts.
thanks fo all the replies by the way. boosted20, your ride is quite dope! I don't think I could make my front end look that good...
