Default help me decide.....

Heres the deal, I have a 94 del sol vtec that I love to death. I never wanted to sell it until my friend came to me last night and offered $10500 for it. CASH! I am torn between keeping the car I love or making the wiser business decision. I am thinking if I sell the del sol, Ill get a rx7. What do you guys think? Should I sell or should I keep her? If I sell what should I get?

I agree, this shouldn't be here.

However, you asked, so I think you're a buffoon for even considering selling that car.

why do you say that?? whats wrong with the rx7? Believe me im open to all ideas. and im sorry you guys for posting this topic here. where should i put it? and why do you guys have to be so rude to people without type rs? If i had a type r you would jump over hurtles to help me but every time i post anything in this forum, you either dont reply at all or just slam me to the floor.

RX7=Ticking time bomb....
3rd-gen RX7's can be somewhat fickle with regards to maintenance and whatnot. They do require much, much more attention than your Honda. I think tecnic just wants you to be aware of what you may be getting yourself into.

Can you afford a much higer maintenance bill? Or parts bill if you do the work yourself? Have you checked insurance on the RX7?

Pat, who like Garth, would keep the open-top DOHC beast

Tecnic1 = ignorant....

Sure, like splat said, rx7s do require more maintenance, but I can provide a number of friends car that are running strong with 150k miles on the stock motor and are also into the 12s and 13s on a daily driven car. It's all about maintenance, maintain an RX7 and it'll last for a LONG time. Both my rx7s had over 140K on the stock motor, one cracked a housing due to overheating (my fault) and one was running when I sold it.

-Dave, who unlike Splat and Garth would sell the Del Sol ASAP and get something else, maybe not a RX7, but something RWD pref

Get a gen 1 RX7, drop and 13B in it and you got a potato chip with a motor. plus its cheap as dirt.

Unless you like driving around in someone's USED car, I wouldn't get rid of your del Sol for that much money. There's something that I'm not too easy about getting into a used car...

The question you should ask yourself is how much money do you have to spend on your new car? Given that you've got $10k for a down payment, you should have at least another $10k to buy a FD RX-7. ($15K for beat up RX-7 + $5K for repair/maintenance).

Personally, if I were you, I'd keep the del Sol... unless there's something majorly wrong with it.

thanks guys for finally giving me your opinions. if you say im crazy and stupid for selling the sol im open to that. I asked for your opinions and I am willing to take the punishment. I just dont think it was very nice for people to say wrong forum go away! I wanted your help becasue you are car lovers like myself and who am I going to ask if not you guys!! So thanks for fianally opening up! And yes, I have heard that rx7s are touchy but Im doing my homework and I have seen numerous times that if you maintain the car, then it lasts a long time. Plus to replace a rotary engine is like changing the oil and it isnt all that expensive (i get huge deals on factory parts) But as far as the older rx7 idea, thanks but i really like the style of the new one. I want my car to look good, handle good, and be fast. Thats why Im thinking rx7, type r, and maybee Ill build another civic all motor monster. I really want to get something with more power however. I dont want to just buy another civic and make it fast. I want something that is at the next level. Like they type r and rx7. So thanks for all your ideas and the more the merrier!! keep them comming..

Thanks again

I don't think Tecnic1 is in any way ignorant. Sure, you may know of several RX7s that lasted until 150k miles without two new engines, but that is far from typical. I have considered buying RX7s several times and it seems that over half the adds for cars with over 70k miles mentioned either new engines or new turbos. Some mention being on their third engine. I am sure if you are **** about maintenance that this should not happen, but you should not need to be.
