Default ls/vtec swap, how much should i be paying?

hey guys

i was wondering what the "average" cost of getting everything needed for an ls/vtec swap?

i was quoted 2500 for an ls/vtec with manual conversion part.

is this too much? the car was in a accident where it rolled, but it still cranks.. so i dont know how everything is. should i skip on this?

thanks

Is that just for the "swap", or the swap+labor to put it in?

$2500 sounds a little steep, but it depends what has been used.

yes full swap gsr, sorry i should have been more clear with that.

the shift linkage might be bent from the roll. but the pedals and master cylinders for the auto ->manual conv should be fine.

Doesnt seem to steep to me, considering a gsr tranny alone is like 800, and if your doing an auto to manual conversion, i'd say its not to bad a deal...

The only thing I'd be concerned about is oil starvation when it rolled, mainly if it came to rest on it's side or roof. People usually aren't concerned or thinking about turning their engine off after a roll. The first three things are - is their *** in 1 peice, is their car in 1 peice, and can they sue the other guy.

2500 for a full swap and an auto->manual conversion is good imo. Considering people are paying ~3k for a good GSR motor/trans alone, its def. somethign to think about. Personally I'd look the bottomend over first (bearings) before handing the cash over, or have them sign a short contract stating a full refund will be given if the motor has any noticable oil starvation (based on your opinion or that of a trained mechanic).

If I were you, I'd also steal the fuel pump off the car too, since even an LS pump is more powerful than most EG pumps.

Well, so far I've spent $2K+ on my setup and I still don't have a tranny, axles and shaft (last things I need). But then again, I've already got ITR cams, Skunk2 camgears, etc. so I can just put it in all at once. Like them other guys said it just depends on what's being used.

well i say it is a little much for the whole thing. you should just build the ls vtech yourself and save some money. i don't know if its just me but i could do it for $600-$800 for the whole motor. with tranny harnesses mounts the works. it could just be me cause i don't know how much you guys could do it for.

Umm, yeah. Pass that **** you're smoking. I could also buy the entire Microsoft Corporation for a couple mil, but it requires what you need for that - a fist full of LUCK. A shortblock for $150, a head/intake/harness for $350, tranny for $300. That, of course, it waiting for each component to pop up, getting to it first, and taking the chance that it's still in prime condition. If you can get a perfectly working LS/VTEC setup for $800, I'll give you $1000 plus shipping (hell, I'd send you a couple prepaid crates!) if you can deliver on that promise.

Edit: I could actually pick it up, since I have good friends in Tenn.
