Default CRX SI problem???

i have a 90 crx si and i got a problem. it doesnt like to start, runs fine when started but sometimes take up to a half hour to get it started. a friend of mine did a compression test and said that the compression was bad on one cylinder. he said its a valve, but if it was a valve problem wouldnt it smoke or somethin?

i need help.

thanks guyz,
chad

low compression could also mean the piston rings are no good.

best way to find out where the problem is to run a leak down test

not saying this has to do nething with low compression but you didnt say how it ran besides fine idle? full throttle half throttle etc.

did your gas mileage go down. you check plugs wires cap rotor etc.

it runs fine at idle, half throttle, and full throttle,
its actually my little brothers and he was tellin me what was up, but i told him i didnt think it was the rings or a valve, because the car never smokes or uses any oil.

i could be wrong though thats why i posted on here, most times yall are great help.

any other ideas?

thanks,
chad

update:

it wasnt the starter, my lil bro said he pulled the plugs out and changed them and it started fine, but then it ran like ****

he got where he was goin and shut it off, it wouldnt start back up when he was ready to go.

pulled the plugs again and the prong on each plug is smashed down, plus they are kinda tore up lookin.

i still dont have a clue at whats wrong though????

everything is right but i dont know why they would be tore up, its ruining the plugs, looks kinda like u put the plugs in a vice and hit'em wit a hammer

has the motor ever been torn apart? did he over tighten the plugs? the pistons hitting the spark plugs would cause that problem.

i dont know if the engine has ever been apart or not, and i dont think the spark plugs were overtightened because he hasnt changed the plugs since he got it a few months ago. and it ran perfect all this time.
