rear brakes make noise after hard braking even after release
ok i dont know how unique this problem is. i've done my search. here's the thing, my integra has been sitting in my parking lot for about a year since I moved to hawaii. never has moved once in that year.
but now that i moved back to california and started driving the car, I've come to notice that my rear brakes start making long screeching, grinding noises ONLY when i brake hard...it sounds really metallic, like metal rubbing. even when the brakes are released the sounds keeps going on. how EMBARRASSING
of course, i've replaced the brake pads so it cannot be the "screaming" indicator. i've also grease the shims just in case so it'll slide easily. but still...the friggin' car will always make a screeching, grinding noise in the rear brakes when i brake hard. its really confusing...i dont know, my only other thought is rotor warpage??? any help please???! thanks ppls...

it could be the metal shield rubbing against something. i've had that happen. just bend it back away from the rotor and see if that is the issue.
wow that's an interesting thought there...u might be onto something. the rear right section thats making the noise has the shield. but the left rear section doesn't and i've always felt it was on the rear right side was the culprit. well, lets see how it goes =]. thanks a lot bro
If your car sat with the parking brake on for a year I guarantee the piston is corroded, because when the brake is on it's fully extended and exposed to the elements, so when you try to release the brake the piston can't retract all of the way because it's covered with rust and crap. If you're capable you could clean it up but be careful not to scar it or it may leak. Good luck
No prob, I used the softest 3m disk (I think it's green, the brown ones are too coarse). If you know what I'm talking about, they're little 2 inch disks with a little plastic screw thread on the back, they sell them in a kit with the little black attachment that'll go in your drill or die grinder. Really handy, I'd get one (hell I have two of them) can get them at lowes or home depot

it was the piston...lots of junk and gunk was stuck to the side walls of the pistons. i was suprised by how much stuff accumulates onto it. used some WD-40 and hard rubbing and it was out. so yea no more annoying brake noises. thanks soo much man.
