Tint removal
Can someone please tell me how to remove the tint from the back window of my teg without destroying the defroster. Or should I just have it taken off by the place that did it
This is what I did on my old EG...use a heat gun (not a hair dryer) and heat the tint up as you pull it off. Once you get it started, you should be able to pull it off in one piece. Then use some windex to get the sticky stuff off. But with the heat gun, it doesn't leave too much residue behind. Do it yourself, don't take it to a shop. They will probably rip you off. You can buy a heat gun for about $20 through Harbor Freight.
And of course...search. There's probably 100 threads about tint removal.

I just did it, took two days cause I got angry... didn't come off in one piece for me. I used two hair dryers, first one died from being on too long. and I used a razor to peel the tint. Also. Denatured alchohal takes the sticky crap off real good.
Hair dryers are not heat guns. I've tried them and they do nothing to tint, you've got to realize this stuff is meant to handle how hot your windows get in the summer in the sun. The only thing that works is a heat gun. I used gasoline and PB blaster to get off the stick crap, it takes a long time to get off. Eventually at the end i used windex to remove the chemical residue.
sweet thanks, im just more worried about destroying the defroster on the back window. but i remember when it was put on, the back window was done in two pieces

You can unbolt your hatch from your car, lay it upside down and fill the glass with water. In about 24 hours, the tint will easily come right off. I have done this on hatches with bad tint that I got at a junkyard. Its a pain to take the hatch off but in my case, I was replacing the hatch at the same time. Just another method I thought I would share.
i do tint and the best way to remove tint of any age is steam. The heat gun/ hair dryer gets to hot and can burn the defoger. This is the quickest and safest way to do this. And when youre doing the removal go slow with the tint. Most times you can get it off in one piece, and you do it this way you will not leave a haze of glue, it just depends on how old the tint is. Most times if its purple, or turned purple then it will leave a haze, but most of the time it will not. Just let me know..
and the solution that you need to remove the haze is 409 or mean green..you can pick these up at the dollar store or any hardware store. just used your good judgement, because removing the tint is very easy and it should just take a good hour to do...really about one hour...if no problems accur...
For the Simple Minded Just Grab A garbage bag black would be good go out in the sun tape the bag around the bottom and sides of the window (hatch) and spray windex all on the window were the tint is then let the sun heat it up for few minutes and it sould peel off almost like its falling off if it hasnt, make a small cut with a box razor in the corner to start a little lift, to be able to grab and peel off with your hand
worked for me.
worked for me.
the tint guy took the back one off of my hatch. he sprayed it down with water and pressed a bag against the glass. then he let it sit in the sun for about half an hour. then it peeled of nicely.
