I am going to remove the ac on my 92 dx hatch, i was wondering what all is involved, i know how to remove it but i mean what about the lines going into the car? and also should i take it to the shop to get the R13 flushed out or do you guys just send that stuff in the sky?

 

Be a friend to the environment, stay legal and take the car to get all the coolant removed.... Although if you dont care about laws or our environment, you can just take a screwdriver, press down on the valve and just vent everything (becareful the gas is really cold and can burn your skin) After the coolant is removed all the parts in the engine bar are easy to remove. As for the inside of the car, the evaporater on most cars is very annoying to remove. I dunno cause I never removed one from an EG, but some cars you do need to remove the dash in order to gain access to it. Anyone remove AC from an EG before and would have info on this?

 

yeah, get the system evacuated at a shop.....I "accidentally" did mine in my driveway, it made a fawking mess.

its definitly what i want to do!, this is my project hatch were talking about here, i have a 97ex coupe that i lightly modded, so i am gutting the hatch and ls turbo! and even if it were my only car scre the girl i will just have to find another that can take the heat if you know what i mean

What's involved to put in an ac? Is it hard to do? If I let someone do it, how much should it be? My friend has a dx eg and he's gutting his car for track, and I want AC in my eg. I guess I just want to know how I can do this because I heard taking it out is not too bad but putting it in is very hard...

Any comments?

Highly likely not. Many, many different elements to "convert" here. (although I never, ever thought about that seriously)

I took my a/c out of my 93 Coupe, I didnt remove anything that involved inside the car, I just let the coolant out in the air, sorry for you enviromentalists, then I disconnected the hardline that goes from the condensor and compressor across the core support. I left the hard line that goes from the passenger side into the firewall just in case I decide to put it back on this summer, but everything pretty much is self explanatory when you look into your engine bay, it saves a decent amount of weight, and also gives the engine bay a cleaner look in my opinion without that second fan and all the junk that goes with it. I didn't cut my A/C belt off either I just loosened up that mount where the a/c compressor mounts, on the frame, and pulled the belt out. Leave that mount though where the compressor is mounted to the block, if you take out that whole mount then your valve cover will hit your hood whenever you drive hard from the motor torque'ing up, that is if you are running a dual cam.
