Anyone wrap their header? Any benefit?
Do any of you wrap your header, and if so, what made you decide to have it wrapped? I think it's supposed to keep heat in, thus reducing underhood temps and I guess allow for cooler air into the intake, I presume. Am I correct? I saw a guy at Englishtown with his header wrapped on his R, and I've seen superchargers on S2000's wrapped too. Looks like mummy wrappings. Thanks for the input.
I did mine when I have the header out, I don't feel any difference before and after, but it looks better with the wrap cause mine is just a DC
What do you mean by this? This will somehow shorten the life of the header? How can that happen if it is onnly retaining more heat all the time?
From what I hear the extreme heat can crack most headers. My question, is it ok to wrap stainless headers I'm contemplating wrapping my Mu-tech to lower the underhood temps. My guess is that stainless can hold up to the wrap ok.
The major concern with wrapping headers is trapping moisture right next to the header, encouraging rust/corrosion. Also, by wrapping, the header can't radiate heat into the surrounding air, making the header run much hotter, posssibly causing exxcellerated damage/wear.
I wrapped the headers in my domestic, and have never had any problems.

This is why you should coat the header and not wrap it. Look at companies like HPC and Jet-Hot. They can coat your header to help contain the heat and extend the headers life.
Wrapping a header can be bad because the extreme heat being closed in tends to corode (sp?) the metal.

[EDIT]Forgot the main reason to post....Don't wrap it, it's a pain in the ***...you end up with little fiberglass pieces all up and down our arms...I did it once, wont do it again, ever. It's cheaper if you figure in how lon it takes you to wrap it corretly, the metal connectors, wrap sealant....just pay $150 and have it professionaly coated.[/EDIT]
