Default Need help finding a starter for a prelude srv

My starter went on my car. need to find a new one.
Does anyone have any recomendations on a website for purchasing a new starter? that is located in Canada? I got napaonline but would like a couple of different websites to shop around at. Also is there any difference in quality in starters?

My problem is that if the weather is warm the car will start fine. When the temperature gets cold (below 0 celcius) the car won't start

We can peel the rubber off the starter wire and contact it with a battery post (just a big bolt thats near the wire) and the car will then start. After the engine bay warms up after drivign it it will start on its own fine.. till it cools down.

Anyone comments?

thanks

Chris

Sounds like there is a problem in the electrical system not the starter.

92lude:
will it fit a 93 lude SRV (vtec 2.2L)?

m@: hmm what in the electrical system would cause the car to not start when its cold and when the temperature warms up it will start fine?

I was thinkning that it could be the solonoid in the starter going. when it gets warm it will work fine and when it gets cold it doesn't work? maybe some sort of wiring inside the starter?

Sounds like a moisture issue within your starting system. Id get it checked out for rust/corrosion or explosed wires before I spend the money on a new starter.

Good places to get a new starter:

Honda
PartSource
NAPA
Carquest

hmm. thats what I did yesterday.
and they told me thats what I needed was a new starter..

but I agree there might be some sort of loose connection or corrosion. me and my gfs dad agree on this..

Im just a newb to the car thing
so I'm not sure. and honda is usally about 363.88 for a new starter.. little over priced napa is 219 or something.
haven't checked the other ones

One good thing about honda...Well heres a situation.

You have a honda starter on now? You have what, 150XXX+kms? Your car is what, adleast 5-6 years old?

My prelude has the original honda starter, has 205XXXkms, and is 12 years old. Starter is still good, so you gotta trust that company.

Napa has what, best warranty 3 years?

Thats what I was thinking myself.

I got 240,000kms on my honda..

Im just checking my options before going out and blindly buying a$350 part.

Well I haven't messed w/ a started before, but I was thinking. If all you need to do is add power to the starter and it works. Then for some reason its not getting power to the starter with the key. So it could be a connection that is shrinking in the cold, like a sodder, and disconnecting.

That would be cheaper then $350 if that is the problem, and you can FIND it.
