Default Dumb Question About Intake/Filter on d16y7

I have the y7 intake manifold (vertical throttle body), and right now I just have a K&N filter connected to the throttle body. So there is no arm or anything.

I was wondering if this is bad for performance and gas mileage?

Thanks for any input

It'll probably soak up heat since it's so close to the engine, but other than that I don't see any harm.

Yeah, it's been on there for 9 months haha.

But, I was wondering if I would get better gas mileage with the actual intake arm on there?
