I have a d16a6 with a d16z6 head i'm about to throw into my hatch. I figured while it was out of the car i might as well replace the head gasket and all top end seal parts, along with water pump and things.
I need to know if i got a top end seal kit for the d16a6 would the gaskets for the head still swap over to the z6 head??? I will be getting a seal kit for the d16a6 because i need the headgasket, and water pump gasket. But i also need the exh/int manifold gaskets which would be for the z6 along with valve cover gaskets and other things.

You need to use the Z6 head gasket when doing a mini-me.

 

The top end kit comes with just the top-end seals, not the waterpump seal. If you get a new water pump it will come with a gasket. Use the Z6 top-end kit, it's the right one, and the HG is better anyway. The one for the A6 is metal composite and it's crap, it's pretty common to use the Z6 metal HG on a straight A6 rebuild. I used a 3-layer metal one in my A6 when I rebuilt it over the summer. You can order the gaskets separately too. If you really want an A6 HG and the rest of the Z6 stuff, pm me, I have an extra A6 HG in the bag still.
