D16A6 with Z6 Head and Y8 IM, which head gasket kit to get?
Ok I am confused on which Gasket kit to get, or just get them all seperatly. If i get a Z6, A6, or Y8 gasket kit are they all the same? Thanks

Any head gasket will work, but they will vary in thickness. Best to go with the gasket that matches your head, so you know the water ports are the same size!

^ FAIL^ a6 bottom gasket set... z6 top gasket set .. the gasket sets vary on a few items but not at all the same from non vtec to vtec but go with what i said.

The biggest thing is make sure it's 3 layer steel. IIRC the A6 gasket is composite, stay away from these. Most guys run a Y8 3 layer steel gasket. Also, if you have the Z6 IM I'd run it, all a Y8 IM does is move the power band up in the RPM range and lean out cylinder 3.

after further thought, I am just going to get all the gaskets seperatly. Then I KNOW its gonna work, and im not stuck with a 120 dollar useless gasket kit.
i only have a Y8 IM and I want to keep it because I read it is the best flowing IM.
Thanks for the help, I did not realize headgasket material and thickness mattered at all.

do what i told you... and you will be fine. the only gaskets i wouldnt "cheap" out on are the rear main seal/oil pan gasket/head gasket. ID rather use a Z6 manifold any day than a y8 94RG8 is correct - the y8 will only beat a z6 manifold above 6200-6600 rpms and by that time your cam would stop making any useful power anyway the design and angle makes cylinder 3 run leaner than the rest and then again the runner sizes vary themselves and are smaller than the z6. no point or reason to change to get a "BIGGER MANIFOLD" y8 manifold better lulz... ITS ALMOST 2012

The Z6 and Y7 gaskets are MLS and the A6 and B2 gaskets are fiber. That's the difference (hence the "varying in thickness").
ANY D15B1/D15B2/B15B6/D15B7/D15B8/D16A6/D16Z6/D15Z1/D16Y7/D16Y8 (and MANY other) head gasket will work. The material that makes them up is the main difference. Most non-VTEC head gaskets are fiber and VTEC heads used MLS.
There is one difference though -- On the MLS gaskets there is an extra unused hole by the oil drains in the front. It does nothing!

MLS gaskets can withstand higher cylinder pressures than a composite graphite gasket but that's not really a concern for the d-series. MLS is also easier to clean up if you ever have to take it off again.
