noob question about blinkers and guage cluster

noob question about blinkers and guage cluster
i put a fuse in and the guages work and my blinkers work but for some reason the fuse blows if it doesnt blow then i get a check engine light, also when i put the car in reverse my temp guage shoots up to all the way hott marion did the work in my car so it cant be his mistake anyone got a idea of what it could be?

a crossed wire in your cluster
bad ground
a short in the cluster
i would check the first one.... sounds like a wire or plug is in the wrong place.
