So I changed out left and right CV axles on my buddies 94 Civic. Drained the fluid first. Went to fill it up, but I took out the wrong fill plug. It was the one that has a 3/4 hex drive of your ratchet, same as the drain plug. A little fluid burped out, but not much at all. I realized it wasnt the right one, and I put it back and opened up the correct fill plug (17mm)

Question number 1--There isnt separate fluid chambers in that tranny is there? I mean, when I let that little bit of fluid out, I diddnt hurt anything did i? That fluid is shared with the rest of the trans right? So when I filled it back up through the other hole, that replenished the burp of fluid I lost through the other fill plug?


Question number two----The trans is supposed to take 2.5 quarts of Honda MTF. I was only able to get about 1.5 in ther (if that) I test drove it, brought it back in, and pulled the fill plug (17mm) and it was definetly full. I just found that odd. Everything is OK right?

As long as you're sitting on a level surface and it's full to the bottom of the fill plug, then it's fine. You're ok.

 

Thanks! Yup, it was level, on jack stands when I checked the level.

That takes a load off my mind. I diddnt want to starve the final drive or anything.
