Default starting problem, no spark? pic inside

i went to start my car today and all it would do is turn over. i can hear the fuel pump, so i assumed its no spark. well its not getting any spark. i took the distributor cap off. the dizzy is getting power where the wiring is attached(green circle in pic) but i dont think its getting any further than that. should it be corroded where its circled in red? could that be the problem? if so what can i do besides buy a new dizzy which is gonna be almost $300

i think i see the problem. the contact spring on your coil is missing, it should be where the red circle is

stick your finger or a screwdriver in the hole where the red circle is and have someone crank the engine. if it shocks the begeezus out of you, then that spring is the problem, if not, then its probably the ICM (the thing the wires are screwed to in the green circle) or possible the coil. honestly though, none of those parts are cheap (except the spring) and if its the coil or the ICM, just throw in a new dizzy, since other stuff will probably follow suit and break in the impending months.

yeah, i wouldn't try to shock myself over it, maybe a high amp meter if you have one as another option

that's your problem right there... you need the spring... if the dizzy is not ruined already, the spring should fix your problem

junkyard... or you can replace the coil...it should come with a spring but i would try spring only...

if you have a multimeter you can start measuring stuff to confirm that all the parts in the dizzy are up to par

What I did was I went to a mechanic down the street and asked him if he had any extra contact springs. He had a dizzy laying around and gave it to me. If your car had been running before the spring was there. You probably dropped it when you pulled the cap off. I would be willing to bet your coil is bad. I got a used coil for mine. Started right up.
