Default Compression ??...but different than the rest....LS VTEC

I assembled an ls vtec motor...the bottom end came from an automatic ls...prob a decent amount of miles.

Reason i mentioned automatic is because obviously the car couldn't have been modded like crazy due to automatic limitations. And it prob wasn't revved like crazy either.

anyway...

after assembly and spendin a shitload on the right parts (oem timing belt, water/oil pumps, ls HG, GE ls/vtec conversion kit etc...) i tried a compression test BY HAND. I never put the motor in the car. Anyway...cranking by hand (fast through the compression stroke) i got 150 150 150 125. now i KNOW if i throw on the tranny and starter it will prob bring those numbers up. So i threw some oil in the low cylinder...it then shot up to 150....okay...then i threw some oil in the others...went up to about 170-180

Butt the tranny is still in the car.. . . . . . so i didnt do the right test yet, and the motor is cold, prob not ran for a year or so.

i cleaned the **** outta the block before i assembled it. removed all the carbon buildup....and the hone on the cylinders looks perfect. no scarring AT ALL!!

so my ??

should i bother throwing the motor in the car? i am going to use my old turbo setup (gt32e, 3" turbo back, precision 750hp ic, etc) to go for about 320-350whp....

think its worth it to even throw this bitch in, or am i waisting my time?

I kinda don't get what you said to begin with, did you dissasembel the whole block and hone it or did you just put new oil pump and other parts on it?

Wait never mind I didn't read the thread right.. haha

I wouldn't even bother putting it in, do a hone on it first and replace the rings.. than give it a try, might as well do it now sence its already out..

i need the $$

and it was an unrealistic goal i set

in order to take advantage of the block i would have had to spent another $5-7k in parts(twin disk, sumped tank, external pump/lines, fully built head, new turbo setup, and a longgg *** wait for jeff evans to tune it...not to mention finding a way to trailer it down to him.......and i have absolutely no $$ right now....

soo yea...im keepin this setup simple and cheap

Not necessarily, as long as the numbers coming out are consistent the motor can be cold while checking for compression.

If your trying to keep it cheap replacing the rings and honing it would be the answer for ya, but if not just get some pistons and rods, polish up the crank, some bearings, hone the block and u got it all done. But again I thought you were going for cheap?

my conclusion

I am throwing it in. if it works it works. if not...it just wont make the power i want..but she will run for a lil. pistons and rods are in the future anyway...i have cheetah building me a motor right now anyway

so inn she goes tomorrow...and chris can have fun tuning it lol
