Default car rolling back on hills when in drive!!!

Wassup, one of my friends has a civic 4-door with the d15 and auto tranny....when the car is on a hill while in drive it will roll back and you have the balance the gas pedal to keep it from moving backward so we would have to keep the rpms up to 1700 just to balance it..it is really bad...

Any suggestions on what would it be???

Normal. The torque converter can't provide enough torque on certain degrees of incline to keep the weight of the car from moving backwards. There's not a dowel that locks the car into a still position when you're on an incline, so the torque converter has to work to keep the car from rolling.

Don't be concerned. A 1.5L engine doesn't make much torque

if it is a really steep hill it could just be normal, if the force of gravity is greater than the force the engine can exert at idle, it will roll back
