Auto Trans Question...
I am officially puzzled so i hope somebody has been through this already so they can help. Let me start by saying that i own a 91' Civic Hatch 1.5L Auto. I ordered a JDM transmission from someone off of ebay and it has to be wrong. The Transmission that came in is marked L4, the main problem is the axles. The axles on my trans in the car have a smaller end that goes into the differential. The trans I recieved has a larger hole, went I went to put my axles in they just go in and wobble around. The only other differance I see is that the transmission i recieved has two solenoids on the top, whereas my old transmission only has one. I tryed looking into some different axles. The only thing i found was some 92-95 Non-ABS Civic axles because they seemed to have the correct end on them, but the hub side of the axle is also bigger so I cant use them. Any Idea what the transmission i recieved is even for? Did they use two different differentials form the JDM to the US counterparts? I am so confused, i don't even know where to look from here. i called the company i bought the trans from and he swears its for a 88-91 Civic 1.5L. I just can't figure it out. Any Help would be greatly appreciated!!
Is your Civic a HF or DX?
There are a couple of 1.5 engines out there, and there are different size hubs and axles.
Not being there in person, I can't say for sure, but this is what I am thinking....
The transmission that you were sold is for the larger spline 1.5 litter cars. The transmission will bolt up to the engine.
The easy way out, ask them if they have a 1.5 transmission for the smaller spline cars (hopefully with them being a company, they will know what you are talking about)
Now, in order to get that tranmisson to work, you would need the larger axles (could get them for a 90 Civic EX model) and then you would need the larger hubs. You have a few different options with those. Any 88-91 Si will work.
The other thing that you can do while doing all this is upgrade the hub/brake step-up by using either the hub, arm, caliper, rotor, pads from a 90-91 EX or 90-93 Integra. The brake set up there is larger and more improved.
Hope this is of help, if you have any questions for us, you can email us, but unfortunately, we don't have any of the parts that you need in this case.
