This has propaganda written all over it.

1) I dont buy it.

2) Thats like posting a dyno from Jim Conforti that shows his shark injector gives 30ft/lb's...its right from RPs website, thats their big marketing tactic is to say RP "restores" lost HP (which BTW is what everyone else is saying now, Q Power, Castrol "Unlock the power", etc)

I would like to see some independent testing, Id imagine any small differences realized would be due to weight and minor condition changes.

my shop filled my engine with royal purple tranny fluid and motor oil.

When i changed it out with mobil 1 next oil change i didn't notice a damn thing.

When are people going to understand that mad tyte JDM oil isn't going to net you a 10 whp

Royal Purple is redneck, not JDM.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I've tried Royal Purple a few times (to give them the benefit of the doubt) and the speed shop I used to manage carried it as a product line.

While I felt the cars act slightly peppier, the obvious loss in MPG wasn't worth my time or money to switch over to their very light + thin oil.

I ran 5w30 in my modded ITR for an HPDE event a few years back (four half hour sessions) and by time I got back to change it, the stuff was jet black and had the consistency of water.

For the hell of it, a few weeks ago, in my current 95 civic EX (bolt-ons only) daily driver (4 hour a day commute); I noticed a drastic (39-41mpg down to 34-36mpg) drop in fuel effeciency. I even kept the same oil filter (K&N) in place as I dumped the royal purple out, refilled with Mobil-1 5w30, and watched my mileage increase back up to 39-40 on the next tank I burned through (2 days later).

My conclusion is, for an off the street race-car, or high perf. car that needs every possible HP, and won't see that oil in it for more than 1,000 miles, it seems fine, but I don't have very much faith in it for things like breakdown and bearing protection.

Nobody cares and nobody is going to switch to Royal Purple

Obviously thinner oil nets more power . But most turbo motors require thicker oil, and this is the turbo forum... If I ever feel like spinning a bearing, maybe I'll give Royal Purple a try.

But...what about the microscope photo graphs of an engine bearing that they have done?

Not to add fuel to the fire, but if the photos are true, then there is no denying the fact that the bearing surface does look a lot smoother.

Yeah, but you need an independent study to prove it.

Besides, what does that even mean? If the RP bearing is polished, doesn't that mean the RP oil caused excessive wear?

After all, a polished bearing is usually a worn out bearing.

Actually, looking at those pics again, it's hard to believe that the third bearing pic is under the same magnification as the first two pics...

Indeed. Thats what I was thinking. It would just be like a super fine grit liquid sand paper wasting away the bearing surface.

But in reality I have no idea what it means, and I have no means of finding out if one oil is really better than the other. That is why I will keep on using my trusty mobil 1.

i don't know why everyone is so hateful toward a good engine oil.....ive been using royal purple with no problems. and its cheaper than mobil 1.

i honestly couldn't care less if it does give more HP. who gives 2 ***** about that. as long as your getting good lubrication and protection that all that matters.

Good protection is important yes, but if someone told you there was an oil that would give you the same protection and gain you 3% at the wheels for the same cost wouldn't you be interested?

I AM!

But how do you KNOW its better? Everything is relative.

I'm not saying any oil is better than the other, but IMO as long as you do regular oil changes, any premium synthetic will do its job. Saying 1 is better than the other is just pointless.

Thats why we need to find someone to do this test next to a leading synthetic and see if there are gains?
