I would like to hear all of your opinions on which HANS model you choose. For me, it's looking to be the 20 or 30. Size wise, it's hard to say because I am a 17.5 or so neck size.
I guess I should just take my helmet to the nearest place that sell the HANS and try them on. But I certainly wont have the car there.
The other concern is price. The model 20 is 860.00! The model 30 is 1135.00
If the 30 will be that much more comfortable, then I think it would be worth it.
I don't really want to turn this thread into a "this type vs that type" discussion because I am decided upon the HANS and there are already enough of those in this forum. I would just like to hear from the people that have already purchased the HANS and what type they got and why...
Thanks all...

Thanks Andrie. I think I will be picking one up before I have a chance to try on yours. Why did you choose the 30, and Kenji get the 20?

I purchased the 20 series in May this year - best investment I've ever made. Anyway, I find that since my seat is quite upright, that the 20 fits my seating position better. I bought the M because I have a 16 neck.
As far as size is concerned, you obviously have 2 choices - M or L. Depending on how thick the collar of your driving suit is, you may want to opt for the Large only because you're straddling theat M line closely. At least with an L, you'll have a little more comfort around the neck.

Unless your in something other than a car, I don't know why you would even consider a 30 and I don't know why Andrie has a 30.
Every driver I know has 20 M, except for one really large guy who has a 20 L.

Scott (AZ Scott) bought one recently. Here's his thread:

I think the gist of it was, "Go try one on." Is there anywhere nearby you can go try on one of each?
$0.02.

Initially I bought a Model 20R. However, after 1 weekend using them, I experience nothing but trouble. Mainly because the upright of the hans is pressed against the seat headrest, which in return pressed the yoke against my chest and cause discomfort.
I spent the whole weekend trying different seat angles and paddings to no success. Since the VP of marketing is a personal friend, he sent me a model 30 for me to try on without having to return the model 20.
So, another weekend spent switching model 20 and model 30 back and forth and adjusting the seat angle to my comfort. In the end the model 30 work better for me.
Kenji on the other hand is happy with model 20.
I say try it on. Most people will like model 20 better. But for me and another friend of mine the model 30 work better.

Jeremy -
Come out and race with us in Dec and you can have Anglo-American bring them right to the track for you to try on. We've got 2 weekends to choose from.
Seriously though, you should try one on before you buy it. Especially if you think you might be right inbetween 2 sizes like I was.

I would have been in this boat if not for going to HMS Motorsport and trying them on in a seat. I was convinced a I needed a 20L but ended up with a 30. So my advice to anyone is try to a) support a local business and b) try one on first.

Funny, I was just looking at them today, when I bought my SA2005 helmet.
The 20 is for the typical upright position that you find in most stock type sports cars. The 30 is for the semi-reclined position that you start to get into in certain open and/or highly modified cars.

I'm guessing you know each other and how big he is? Because the 20 comes in XS, S, M, or L. The 30 comes in only M or L.

I think the shape of your chest can play a role in whether the 20 or the 30 fits better. Some guys/gals have barrel shaped chests vs some have skinny flat chests.

That is true. I have a skinny-flat chest and the model 20 seems to be pretty comfy on it. If you have more of a puffy chest, the model 20 might dig in or not sit right. Perhaps that's why the model 30 is more comfortable for some people.
