Default Picked up my HANS device yesterday

Just thought I'd throw this little reminder out there for those of you who have been thinking about it, but haven't done it yet. Man, it's tough to shell out $1k on a little piece of CF and some straps, but it's done now and I will feel better about wearing one when I drive (esp since my accident). I know the off-season is coming for most regions. It may be a good time for some of you to bank a little cash while not racing and allocate funds for a head and neck restraint. That's basically what I did since we didn't have a race in AZ this month.

As for the HANS in particular, I'd recommend trying them on before you buy one. We have a shop in Phoenix that stocks them (aaroadracing.com) and are very knowledgeable about them, so I made the trip up there with my suit and helmet to try a few different sizes. I was right on the border of small and medium in the model 20. The model 20 is what is recommened for sports car applications, but some people prefer the model 30 because it doesn't touch the back of your helmet when sitting upright. I figure that I'll try the model 20 for now, but if I just can't get used to it rubbing my helmet, I may exchange it later for a model 30. Also, after wearing the economy version, I have no idea why people would shell out hundreds of dollars for the professional version. The economy is plenty light and the weight of it on my shoulders was negligable. Performance between the models is identical. Anyway, that's my take. If you give Anglo-American a call, talk to Martin. He is really helpful. Him and his wife run the shop and they support all of the local clubs down here. They're good peeps.

Best money I ever spent Once you race with it, you'll wonder why you didn't get it earlier. Just be aware that your mobility turning side to side is much more restricted - just needs getting used to.

I wouldn't even think of going out on track without mine. Me likes my head staying attached to the rest of my body.

Hmm, two sets of race tires...or alive?

I think the HANS device can be bought for less than $830 at some shops. At the ALMS Laguna, the parts truck was selling one for $865. Does anyone know where the least expensive HANS can be bought?

or worse yet (IMO), in a wheelchair? it's more expensive and depressing to be quadriplegic than dead - maybe it's just me?

I would not even consider being out on track without my Isaac. I bought it before I even did my schools. $35 take off tires for most of the season were worth it.

I think the pricing is fixed on the HANS models. Mine was $865 also, but I had to pay $70 in sales tax because I bought it in person. Worth every penny IMO for getting to try it on first. So total was about $935 and I rounded up to $1k cause that's what it feels like. I've never seen them cheaper anywhere, so I figure that HANS must have fixed the pricing. Just as a point of interest, the model 30 is about $300 more than the model 20.

With the 5% Honda-Tech discount they are $820.61 from my shop, with free shipping:

http://www.tankslapperautospor...age=1

Just type TSA5 when you are on the shopping cart page and you'll get the discount.

I'm also going to do package deals with SA2005 helmets that are already fitted with HANS posts....

Is this their new price structure. They didn't charge me extra when I exchanged mine to model 30.

the 30 degree is about $320 more, and the 40 degree is $450 more than that... but that's basically for F1. luckily for us, the 20 is what we want.

NASA has a long term plan to require it for racers, possibly as soon as next year. I expect all sanctioning bodies to follow. This was NASA's release:
