Default d16y7 worth trying to make fast??

I have a 97 dx hatch that i got like 2 months ago. The following is what was done to it when i got it: Ebay header, new water pump, 13"eagle alloys(gay) and thats about it. I have done the following to it:AEM short ram, magnaflow muffler, catalytic converter(when the guy put the header on, he didnt put a cat on, cd player, new plugs, grille, painted the moldings. So i need some suggestions. Im pretty sure i have a d16y7 engine, and i spend about 2hrs a day reading up on honda-tech, and club civic. I dont know what i should do with my engine, because i dont even kno if its worth trying to make fast. I am thinkin i just want to get my car to run real well, and just do some appearence mods, as well as a system. I wanna take out my back seats and completely re do the hatch part, making a solid floor. So my question is: Should i even try to make this car fast or should i just save and get a swap. Keep in mind, i am a 17 yr old about to graduate, then on to college, i make about 160 a week, and i have minimal knowledge about cars. I am tryin to learn all i can.

read up on turbos my good man. forced induction is great on sohcs. head over to d-series.org and go to their force induction section. And you also have a D__Y series engine, and people might give you crap about it, but truth is the only bad thing is they have slightly higher compression over the older D's.... dont believe garbage about oil systems and such.

Research long, and stay away from FMUs, SSAUTOCHROME, TURBOXS, and try to stay away from AFCs.

dont waste your money on appearance...
youll regret it and end up selling it.

boost is best.
id suggest doing a mini-me(http://www.jdmuniverse.com/for...32971) swap and then boosting. having vtec and running 7-8 psi should treat you quite right. youll have to upgrade all internals if you run 9+.

boosted single cams will rock most stock b-series...
(if tuned and treated right)

yes, a turbo sohc can make some pretty serious power. there is a guy on e-hatch.com (fjt) that is famous for his 12 second runs in his ek (soon to be 11's). He also has a d16y7 with a stock head. Good luck.

This is an great example of people who mean well but dont exactly explain stuff the best. PSI is not what should be measured for engine wear. A lil turbo putting out 12 PSI and giving your engine 200 hp will hurt the engine less than a big turbo running 6 PSI and giving your engine 300 hp. The PSI is better at gauging the strain on your turbo.

This is why you need to research long and hard.

Cheapest way to get a little pep from a D16Y7

D16Y8 (EX) Intake manifold.. (Straight bolt on) -Scored one for $75

EX/Si Transmission - I picked up for $150

Cheap and WILL make your car a little quicker

I have a high 13 second Y7 powered EK hatch.

Boosted, y8 manifold, y8 tranny, and a bunch of other little crap adds up.
