Nope. The only way you're gonna get sound from your iPod through that deck is with a wireless FM modulator.

Actually, they do have "wired" FM modulators that have antennas going into the radio with the car antenna going into the module.

Personally I prefer these units as they are less prone to static and noise from bad reception.

Good call...

Let me rephrase...

The only way you'll get sound through that deck is with an FM Modulator, wired or wireless...

Perhaps the best option here (in terms of sound quality) would be to buy an amp (even a small one, if you don't want ALOT of power). Then get a line-level switch so that you can switch between the iPod and head unit.

And then what? Run all new lines to the speakers and then worry about having to turn off the radio to listen to the iPod? And then not have any flexibility to adjust bass and treble? And then have to control the volume off the iPod?

Yeah... Great idea man...

Get an FM Modulator. It'll sound just fine (especially with the direct connect one). Even with the cheaper wireless ones, I think it'll sound pretty good. Not perfect, but most sound pretty good.

Or just get a new head unit. From my experience, FM modulators are pretty crappy. I would prefer the trouble of running a separate amp rather than running an FM modulator.

Well, I use my ipod like a ***** in both my vehicles...

in my sol I have a premeire deck where pioneer made a pretty nice little unit that integrates the ipod nicely. esp for 130 bux cdn I was more than happy

in my beater van I have a poo-quality sony deck that has nothing so I use the griffin fm trans unit. It's not bad, but not great. There is a little static sometimes, but it's super quiet which is the part I hate the most. (meaning that the amp unit in the griffin is kinda crappy, but I figure it's the radio laws) The sweet part about it is when I'm working in my shop I can broadcast to the radio, which has significantly better reception than my car.

If you had amps powering your speakers and only used the deck for processing I would recommend a switch so that the ipod can go directly through a crossover network and to each amp bypassing your deck, but since you kinda have a low-end deck you most likely don't have that kinda setup.

I would recommend you use an FM transmitter, I got mine on sale for 26 bux cdn....seems to be the best bang for your buck solution here.
