Default alignment Q

i'm getting a 4wheel alignment pretty soon, because of camber wear
since i can't adjust the camber without a camber kit, i can only adjust the toe settings
what do u guys recommend for the toe setting for a daily driver with ocaional autoX, like once a month?

i have been told that 1/8" or less of toe in/out, i should have no problems with camber wear, true?

tia

Camber doesn't wear tires, toe does. I ran almost -2 degrees camber on my old SE-R and had no problems with tire wear ... because I ran zero toe.

Zero toe should be fine for a daily driver that occasionally sees autox duty.

Camber does cause wear..... you should look at my tires
Aggressive toe causes more wear than camber...

but both do eat tires

Hmm, I've never had a problem with it. -1.5, -2, or -0.5 degrees camber-- tie wear wasn't an issue unless there was some toe out.

Camber can wear tires, just not as severly as toe out. Camber makes the tire generally wear from the center of the tread out. Toe out wears the inside inch or so of the tire. Some cars aren't hard on tires. My CRX has -2.5 camber and almost 1/8 toe out and the tires wear flat, just like jon's

Not sure you car counts O-man. It weighs 2 lbs.

Toe out will eat tires faster than moderate amounts of camber.

Last year:
-2.2 camber, 1/8" toe out. New AVS intermediates last 4 autocrosses. Damn.

-2.2 camber, 0 toe. Another set of new AVSs last the remainder of the year (~6 more autocrosses) and 2 track events. Still got tread and should last another 2-3 autocrosses.

you must be on some HARD tires...... It's always been an issue..you are correct.... toe does amplify the problem severly
but even with 0 toe... I still have tire wear

Not really. Bridgestone RE-71's and Potenza S-03's ... mix in a few Kumho V700's and Hoosier A3S03's ...

Well, tires are a wear item...

Totally up to you. Zero toe doesn't wear tires as fast, but the car's turn-in response won't be as good as with some toe-out, if you care about that.

Two separate questions. Camber wears your tires. Toe wears your tires more.

IMO, if the turn-in on your car frustrates you, then decide how often you want to replace tires and put a little toe out on either the front or rear. ANY toe shortens a tire's life by a third or more.

If you don't know whether your turn-in is acceptable or not, run zero toe.

Zero. You can't have both.

Zero. Go with that. From the factory cars are almost always toed in slightly for straight line stability. Zero toe will make the car a *little* more skittish and willing to follow irregualrities in the pavement, as well as turn in better than it did coming off the dealer lot. And the wear should be at a minimum.

I know this is a silly question but im just confirming. If I go and get my toe set and decide later to do the "washer trick", changing the camber wont change the toe will it?

Changing the camber will change the toe. If you have the car on an alignment rack, you'll see that when you make either adjustment, the other seesaws around as well. So you keep fiddling for a little while until you have them where you want them.

Yes it will. For most fwd cars (depending where the steering arm joins in) negative camber with toe the front in, positive camber will toe it out.

alright guys thanks for the heads up, just thinking about the mechanics of it, I didnt really see how camber could affect toe, knowing the fact that it DOES change makes it a little easier to understand. Ill get the camber set first.
