Are you serious? Did you think you could just put it on and it would magically activate on its lonesome - like some little gnome was going to pop out of the solenoid with a golden hammer and start banging more horsepower into your engine?
Yes you have to wire it up! Who knows how to do this mechanically but lacks the foresight to research it?

Yes, you need 3 additional wires for the two vtec components, a 4th if using a stock p30 or p72 ecu with knock sensor board.
Otherwise check the ground you used for the wire - mine was half-assed, and didn't work till I exteneded it to the battery, and later (cleanly) to the thermostat housing ground.

but shouldnt the engine harness im using already be wired for vtec? its a 98ex harness in a 96 dx hatch....ex come w/ vtec?the only thing i can think is that i gotta run some wires to the ecu...anyone know anything about wiring for a obd2 ecu...
Good God Jesus Christ!!!!!!
YOU MUST WIRE UP VTEC!
Your chassis is a DX! DX DID NOT COME WITH VTEC!!
Even if you use a EX wiring harness, you still have to wire it up!
The only hatches that came wired up for VTEC is all 92 hatches and all Si model hatches.
If you want help, then don't be a f*cking jackass. Jackass!

hmmmm, i cant front i was thinking the same thing. I thought the purpose of getting a ex, si, gsr harness was so it was all plug and play and that you didnt have to add any wires to it.
Im doing a b20vtec with a p72 head and p28 ecu into a 94 EH. i thought that if i got the gsr wiring harness that it was all plug and play??
